CFEC works closely with Virginia Cooperative Extension, Central Virginia Small Business Development Center, and the Community Investment Collaborative to create educational programs focused on the local food system's businesses.

From financing to scaling, regulations and food safety, our programs are designed to help anyone interested in starting their own food business navigate a confusing landscape.

Jump Start Your Food Startup

This workshop gives an overview of regulations for different types of food businesses and free and low-cost resources available to help businesses grow. Our next workshop is coming this spring, with a special focus on retail and value added products. Subscribe to our newsletter to get updates.

Audience and Lecturer

Current Good Manufacturing Practices

The Good Manufacturing Practices and Sanitation training is a requirement for folks looking to make consumer packaged goods for retail. The cGMP training guides businesses on creating food safety plans and receiving permits for production.

Refrigerated Goods

ServSafe Certification

An 8-hour Food Protection Manager Certification

developed by the Educational Foundation of the National

Restaurant Association.

Run by VCE, classes are offered quarterly.
